warning! contains crude language!

This is normally not the kind of lunchnote I would post, but I'm feelin' kinda sassy today, so what the hell. The top note is inspired by the type of nonsensical catch-phrases I was coming up with late last night before bed. Why? Who knows. I'm sure when Chris drew this he didn't think I would post it, which is why he made a second note.

Either way, the truth is I like to use cuss words, a lot. It probably stems from going up in a house where these words were not used AT ALL. While I still won't break out the "f" word in front of my parents, anytime I use any of the lesser swear words my dad STILL says "Laura, young ladies don't use that kind of language". Awesome.

rainy days

I'm fairly certain this note refers to Saturday, not yesterday. Chris often has trouble with what day it is or how much time has passed. He also often forgets how old he is. :)
Anyways, Saturday was just one long series of mishaps where it felt like the rain cloud of doom was following us around. Thankfully, Sunday was a much better day.

This made me laugh really, really hard. But it's probably only funny if you were at our house this morning while I was brushing my teeth.

Please remember that you have until tonight to enter my lunchnotes contest or Chris's sketch contest! (One entry per person per contest!) Winner will be announced on Monday! Good Luck!

child's play?

Chris and I, er, um, I mean Brady has hit a wall in Lego Batman and cannot figure the level out. This is obviously embarassing because Lego Batman is kinda a kid's game and even though he is a smart, educated bear, he can't figure out this stupid game! Oh, how Brady wishes he still had that subscription to Nintendo Power so he could get through this level!

Chris and I went apple picking on Friday and came home with a ton of great apples, so I spent the weekend canning applesauce and apple butter. This is pretty much exactly how the kitchen looked all weekend!

Thank you to everyone who has shared their good news so far. It's been so much fun reading your comments! If you haven't already entered my lunchnotes contest or Chris's sketch contest, please do! You have until 11:59 pm on Friday to enter. (One entry per person per contest!)

Contest Time!

We've opened an Etsy shop for Chris to sell Lunchnotes, sketchbooks, prints and sketches and I thought it would be fun to celebrate with a contest! So we're having a contest here and a contest on Chris's blog. One lucky Lunchnotes reader will receive the following:

1) All three volumes of Lunchnotes
2) One dozen homemade cookies (chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin - your choice)***
3) A lunchnotes style sketch starring YOU that will be posted here on Lunchnotes

All you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post and share some good news! Did you ace a test? Is a loved one returning home? Did you find a penny in the parking lot? Share your good news, big or small!

Contest runs until Friday, October 23rd at 11:59 p.m. (central). One entry per person for this contest (you may also enter Chris's contest!). Winner will be chosen by random number generator and will be announced Monday, October 26th! Good luck!

P.S. We're offering free shipping on orders placed in Chris's shop through 1:00 pm central this Sunday, October 18th. Please enter "free shipping" in the notes to seller when you check out and I'll refund your shipping through Paypal. So order something, damnit! :)

***If you think it's weird for some random lady on the internet to send you homemade cookies, just say so and I'll be happy to send you a box of my favorite store bought cookies instead.***

When I lived in Montana, my bff/roommate Alison and I would wait until we could no longer bear the cold to put on the heat in our apartment. I think we lasted until sometime in mid-November (which is COLD in Montana) until we had to turn it on. It was partly a game to test our toughness and partly to cut back on utility bills so we could buy more beer (sorry Mom & Dad!).

Nowadays, Chris and I do the same thing (athough not for beer money) so it was pretty chilly in our house last night because there is no way that I am turning the heat on in October.
Unless we can see our breath. Then I'll cave. :)

P.S. Remember to come back Friday for a contest announcement both here and on Chris's blog. We've got something fun planned for you guys!

the mondays

I've definitely got a case of the Mondays, combined with a case of the Don't Want My Vacation To Be Over, with a side of Oh My God There Is So Much Work To Catch Up On. Hope your Monday is faring better.
Also, make sure you stop back by Lunch notes on Friday for some exciting contest news!

Even though our vacation got cancelled, I am still off work all week, which means Chris hasn't been making me lunch and so, no lunchnotes. I had to beg him to draw this one, so I apologize that this week will be light on the posting.

Also, I could get used to staying at home with Chris. I've been doing lots of baking, cleaning and organizing. Which, if you know me, comes a very close second to going on an actual vacation. :)

brains . . .brains

One bright spot in all the no-vacation nonsense is that I will still have the week off work and we WILL have time to go see a double feature of Whip It and Zombieland. Woo Hoo!

Also, Chris was named "Best Comic Book Artist" by the Riverfront Times in their annual Best of St. Louis Issue. Check out this nice little write-up that gives a little love to Lunch Notes too!
