exciting news!

Sorry, I don't have any lunchnotes to post today - I just haven't had any time to scan them. I had mistakenly thought that having summer off from school would magically free up all sorts of time and so far it just hasn't happened that way. I've got a list of projects two miles long that I'm trying to fit into the next couple of months and I apologize that I've deliquent here this week.

But the exciting news is . . . .(drumroll) . . . one of those projects I've been working on is a Lunchnotes book! It will be published like a mini-comic and the first volume will collect the first couple of years of lunchnotes - none of which have appeared on this blog. We'll be selling it at comic shows this summer and I hope to have it done by next week. Stay tuned for more info and a contest announcement!

RIP Chi Chi

This note makes me laugh while it makes me sad. I know this really is how Chris feels right now. It's not the first time and I know it won't be the last that he pushes himself this hard. Fortunately, we're not yet at the stage where he is soaking his drawing hand in ice water to numb the pain.

post-vacation breakdown

We spent most of last week on vacation in Minneapolis which means that the week prior to vacation Chris worked almost non-stop. It also means that this week he will work non-stop and be lucky to grab two or three hours of sleep a night. Hence, this lunch note.

Being a freelance artist definitely comes with a wealth of benefits but one serious drawback is that it becomes nearly impossible to take a vacation. Or at least plan one. This was our first non-comics related trip EVER in our almost seven years together. And it may very well be another seven years before we take another because I really hate watching Chris push himself so hard. So if you see Chris this week, be nice. He's working even harder than usual.

holy ants batman!

Not sure what happened, but a couple of weeks back we had a huge ant problem in the kitchen. Thankfully, they're gone, but I think Chris did feel like this at one point!

shave and a haircut . . .

I know this is old news now, but last week Chris got a haircut and shaved his beard. He looks just as fresh faced and clean cut as the day we were married! This note was drawn post haircut, pre-beard shave.

poor chris

Poor Chris, he woke up this morning with his eye swollen shut because of a stye. It looked painful. And apparently it was not comforting that I told him he looked like a monster. I'm still perfecting my bedside manner.

on being a comic book wife and how awesome you guys are

This past weekend we went out to Greensboro, NC for the Free Comic Book Day event at Acme Comics.  Our experience there - getting to meet the employees, customers and other pros reminded me of everything I love about being a comic book wife.  We have met the most amazingly wonderful people (pros and fans alike) through Chris's career in comics.  Sometimes it's just a handshake and a few quick words.  Other times genuine friendships have been born.  In every way our lives are richer because of all the people we've met who have responded so positively to what Chris is doing.  So before I get all weepy and babble on about how much you guys mean to us, I'll just leave it as a very heartfelt thank you.  And a specific thank you to Stephen and Jermaine at Acme for making Chris feel like a superstar and making me feel completely welcome and not at all like a third wheel.  Anytime you want us back, we will be there!
